Otho 15 January – 17 April 69. Denarius (Silver 18.5 mm 2.99 g 7 h) Rome. IMP OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P Bare head of Otho to right. Rev. PONT MAX Ceres standing to left holding corn ears in right hand and cornucopia in left. BMC 9. Cohen 11. RIC 20. Bold portrait toned. Scrapes and scratches otherwise good very fine. Otho’s portraits are famous for the elaborately waved hair he wears: it was of course a wig as the ancient sources tell us! He was prematurely bald and very vain about it.
