Description
JUDAEA. First Jewish War, 66-70 C.E. AR Shekel (14.05 gms), Jerusalem Mint, dated Year 1 (66/7 C.E.). NGC VF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Brushed.
Meshorer-187; Hendin-6382. Obverse: Omer cup; Reverse: Sprig of three pomegranates. A compelling Shekel struck from dies of the somewhat rudimentary style that characterizes the first year of the Jewish War. Each side received a forceful strike, yielding exceptional clarity and completeness. The surfaces are lightly brightened from past cleaning, yet retain a lovely undisturbed appearance, notably lacking any distracting marks.
Provenance: From the Rabbi Victor H. Weissberg and Tamar Weissberg Collection.
