Description

Ancient Pre Columbian Chancay Large Bulbous Figural Vessel Ca. 800-1200 A.D. Size 15 1/4 inches High. x 8 1/2 inches Diameter widest point. A large Chancay Bulbous pottery figural Vessel with hands holding chalice, decorated in black details. Provenance: acquired by Paul Lester Wiener (1895-1967). Wiener was an acclaimed American architect and urban planner who was commissioned for projects across South America. He is credited with the modern master plan for the cities of Havana, Bogota, and others in Colombia. It is most likely that Wiener acquired these objects with his wife, Ingeborg ten Haeff (m. 1948), whilst working in South America. The objects have remained in the same collection by descent since.
