Description
VESPASIAN, A.D. 69-79. AE Sestertius (23.67 gms), Rome Mint, ca. A.D. 71. NGC Ch VF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 1/5. Smoothing.
RIC-221; Hendin-1508. “Judaea Capta” commemorative. Obverse: Laureate head right; Reverse: Victory standing right, with foot on helmet, inscribing shield set on palm tree to right; at base of tree, Judaea seated right, in attitude of mourning. Inspection of the surfaces reveals significant smoothing of the fields as well as a small flan crack. However, the legends and design elements remain largely unaltered. An overall attractive and well-struck example of this always-popular commemorative type.
