Theodosius I, Eastern Roman Empire (AD 379-395). AV solidus (20mm, 4.40 gm, 6h). NGC XF 5/5 – 3/5, edge bend, light marks. Constantinople, 4th officina, 25 August AD 383-28 August AD 388. D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius I right, seen from front / CONCORDI-A AVGG Δ, Constantinopolis seated facing on plain throne, helmeted head right, right foot on prow, grounded scepter in right hand, shield in left inscribed VOT / X / MVLT / XV; CONOB in exergue. RIC X 71a var. (reverse legend, unattested officina).
Note – RIC IX 71a, reverse legend blundered, should be AVGGG, not noted for officina Δ, but described in footnote for 71b on p. 231 for a specimen in Paris from officina H with same legend.
