Description
CELTIC. Lower Danube. AR Tetradrachm, late 4th-3rd Centuries B.C. NGC Ch F. Marks.
cf. SNG ANS 783-809 (for rough). Imitating the types of Philip II of Macedon. Obverse: Laureate head of Zeus right; Reverse: Nude youth, holding palm, on horseback right; below, Λ above torch. While this issue may also be an official product of Macedon, the lack of a secondary control under the horse’s raised foreleg and an abbreviated reverse legend lead one to conclude that it is more likely imitative.
