Andronicus II Palaeologus and Michael IX (AD 1295-1320). AV/EL hyperpyron (24mm, 4.04 gm, 6h). NGC XF 2/5 – 3/5, brushed. Constantinople, ca. AD 1294-1303. Half-length figure of the Virgin Mary, orans, within circuit of city walls with six towers; sigla / MICΛΓM-ANΔPNIK, Christ, nimbate, wearing pallium and colobium, standing facing, IC-XC flanking head, crowning Michael IX (on right) and Andronicus II (on left) kneeling to either side, each wearing divitision and loros.
