Description
A Gandharan Carved Grey Schist Stone head of Buddha. Probably 2nd century AD. Size 10 1/4 inches high + stand. The wide face has a serene expression, and elongated ears, and is finished with hair tied in a Ushnisha knot. Custom mounted on wooden block. Provenance: Ex. Fortuna Fine Arts, NYC. Acquired from Apollo Auctions London July 14th 2024 lot 524. Ex; From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in the early 2000s in France; previously in 1970s European collection. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
