Byzantine Empire, Romanus III Argyrus (1028-1034), AV Histamenon Nomisma, +IhS XIS REX REGNANTIhM, Christ enthroned facing, wearing nimbus cruciger, pallium and colobium, raising right hand in benediction, holding book of Gospels in left hand, double border, rev. THCE bOHTH’ RWMAhW, he Virgin, nimbate, to right, Romanus, beaded, to left, both standing facing, the Virgin wearing pallium and maphorium, crowning the emperor with her right hand, wearing saccos and loros, holding globus cruciger in left hand, M and theta between heads, both with macrons, four pellets on fold of robe hanging beneath globus cruciger, double border, 4.33g (SB 1819), extremely fine.
