Roman Empire, Marcian (AD 450-457), AV Solidus, Constantinople, 5th Officina, D N MARCIANVS P F AVG, diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with a horseman spearing fallen enemy, rev. VICTORIA AVGGG E, Victory standing left, holding long, jewelled cross, star to right field, CONOB in exergue, 4.31g (RIC 508; Depeyrot 87/1; Ratto 215), light graffito to reverse, otherwise good very fine or better, given ‘no decision’ by NGC, and hence not slabbed, (Cert. #8536724-007)
