Description

JUDAEA. Bar Kochba Revolt, 132-135 C.E. AR Zuz (Denarius) (3.75 gms), Jerusalem Mint, Undated, attributed to year 3 (134/5 C.E.). NGC Ch EF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 4/5. Overstruck.

Mildenberg-131 (O19/R91); Meshorer-276; Hendin-6453. Obverse: “Simon” (in Hebrew) within wreath; Reverse: Two upright trumpets. Rather clearly overstruck upon a Drachm of Trajan, this lightly toned example features a somewhat uneven strike, but remains without much in the way of wear and with a pleasing degree of brilliance residing among the protected areas.
Provenance: From the Rabbi Victor H. Weissberg and Tamar Weissberg Collection.

Ex: Jascha Heifetz Collection (Part II, Superior Galleries, 12/1989) Lot # 2893.
